John Dilworth
MÖLLER, Guillaume Max (Max jr.) Born 1915, died 1985 Amsterdam Netherlands Son, pupil, and assistant of Paul Max Möller, below. Trained at Mittenwald. Employed by A. Dieudonné and C. Enel. Moved to New York 1935 to work with Simone Sacconi in the workshop of Emil Herrmann. Returned to Amsterdam and succeeded to his father’s shop 1948, continuing to work there with K. Rutz, J. Santman, and later H. Leonhardt until his retirement 1980. Awarded the Coupe du Gouvernment de Liège for a quartet in 1954, and a frequent member of competition juries himself. Author of The Violin-Makers of the Low Countries (1955). Co-founder of the ‘Entente des Maîtres Luthiers et Archetiers d’Art’ and the Netherlands Group of Violin and Bow Makers (NGV). Honorary member of the Verband Deutscher Geigenbauer, Knight of the Oranje Nassau, and the Italian Order of the Crown. Violins and violas on a personal model; violas particularly sought after.
