Adolf Born 1843 Markneukirchen, died 1883 Debrecen Hungary. Moved to Budapest, Hungary 1860, employed by Josef Schunda and Karl Brandl. Subsequently worked in Kolozsovar, Losonc, and Miskolc before returning to Budapest in 1866 to marry Brandl’s widow and take over the workshop. In 1879 he moved again to Kolozsovar, then in 1882 to Nagyvarad (formerly Oradea), and finally to Debrecen. Fine and influential maker of the Hungarian school. Stradivari, Guarneri, and Maggini models with brown varnish and a good reflective ground. Many experiments in tone manipulation, but orthodox instruments very successful.
