MUTTI, Vittorio Born 1903, died 1959 Castiglione delle Stiviere, Mantua Italy. Pupil of Carlo Schiavi in Cremona. Several experimental models from early period, some with back and ribs carved from a single block. Later produced rather nondescript instruments on Stradivari models with transparent lightly coloured varnish; some unpurfled. Known to have used maple wood for the bassbar.
