Norris & Barnes
Norris & Barnes was a London violin-making and musical instrument firm established in 1765 by John Norris and Robert Barnes. Among the leading instrument businesses of late eighteenth-century London, the firm produced and retailed violins, violas, cellos, bows, and other musical instruments through a network of skilled craftsmen. Renowned for the quality of its workmanship and commercial influence, Norris & Barnes played a significant role in the development of the English violin trade, forming the foundation of the business that later evolved into the celebrated firm of Edward Withers.
