Maker Overview
Life
German violin workshop and instrument brand founded in Schönbach in 1887 by Johannes Klier and later developed by Otto Josef Klier. Originally specialising in violins, violas and cellos, the firm relocated to Bubenreuth after the Second World War and expanded into large-scale production of stringed instruments under the Klira brand. During the mid-twentieth century Klira became one of Germany’s leading commercial instrument manufacturers, producing both bowed and fretted instruments. By the 1990s the company had moved away from mass production, with the Otto Jos. Klier name continuing in a smaller specialist violin-making capacity
