Maker Overview

Life

Perry & Wilkinson was a prominent Irish violin-making firm based in Dublin, active from 1789 to around 1838. The partnership was formed between Thomas Perry II (c.1744–1818), one of Ireland’s most important violin makers, and his son-in-law and former apprentice William Wilkinson (1771–1838). The firm operated from No. 4 Anglesea Street, Dublin.

Perry had established a successful workshop producing violins, violas, cellos, and other instruments, employing skilled makers including Richard Tobin and Vincenzo Panormo. After Perry’s death in 1818, Wilkinson continued the business under the Perry & Wilkinson name, using existing workshop stock and patterns.
