John Dilworth
POSCH (BOSCH), Anton Born 1677 Vils, died 1742 Vienna Austria Highly regarded and influential maker of the Viennese school, active from 1706. Appointed luthier to the royal court 1721. Stainer-derived model, with straightened centre bouts. High arch. Excellent workmanship and particularly fine clear golden-yellow varnish. Soundholes set quite upright. Scroll very beautifully and delicately carved, with a characteristically wide throw behind the first turn. Violas, cellos, lutes, and guitars known.
