John (II) ROSE
Biographies
John Dilworth
ROSE, John (II) died 1611 London UK. Son, pupil and successor of John (I), above. Continued to work in the Bridewell palace until 1607, when he was given notice for unpaid rent. Dating of all instruments attributed to ‘John Rose’ is tentative, and it may well be that the younger man was in fact responsible for most surviving work. A wire-strung bandora of 1580 is the most reliable representative of his work, and is wonderfully elaborate and well-crafted. Johannes Rosa Londini fecit, in Bridewell, the 21th July, 1580 [Fleming, Woodfield]
