John Dilworth
SANDBERG, Eric Worked circa. 1770-1781 Stockholm Sweden. Pupil of J. Öhberg from 1770. Established independently 1772 and took D. Wickström as apprentice 1773. Produced 268 violins, two cellos, five harps, and one cittern between 1773 and 1778. In 1781 he was serving in the navy. Viols, violas, and guitars also recorded. A cello in the Copenhagen Museum of Musical History of compact size (75cm/29” back length); unpurfled with good brown varnish. Other cellos with purfling and smaller body size of 70cm/27½”) . Small viola, also unpurfled with brown varnish dated 1773. Cramped narrow Testore-like head. Stainer/ Amati derived model, well regulated.
