Biographies
John Dilworth
SGARBI, Antonio Born 1866 Finale Emilia, died 1938 Rome Italy. Son and pupil of Giuseppe Sgarbi, below. Moved with family to Rome in 1878 and succeeded to his father’s workshop in 1890. Appointed luthier to the Bellini Consevatoire in Palermo 1905-1911. Later worked briefly in Modena, then returned to Rome, later working as Sgarbi and Sons. Very loose, often graceless work, but well finished and with a polished golden-orange or yellow varnish. Good effective low archings. Antonius Sgarbi Domo / Finalio in Aemilia / Fecit Romae An. 19..
