Pupil of John Hornsteiner in Chicago. Established independently there from 1917. Stradivari and Guarneri models. About 300 violins, 30 violas, and 10 cellos completed, but very few sold with his own label; mostly sold through Hornsteiner and other dealers. SINDELAR, Frank Born 1883 Bohemia, Worked from 1901, died 1952 Chicago, Illinois USA. Pupil of John Hornsteiner in Chicago. Established independently there from 1917. Stradivari and Guarneri models. About 300 violins, 30 violas, and 10 cellos completed, but very few sold with his own label; mostly sold through Hornsteiner and other dealers. Excellent orange oil varnish; also used a dark red-brown and brittle red varnish. Inventor of ‘Super-Sensitive Stainless Steel Strings’.
