THOMPSON, Peter (I) Worked circa. 1738, died 1794 London UK. Brother of Robert Thompson, below. Worked at various signs: ‘Violin, Hautboy, & German Flute’, ‘Violin & German Flute’, ‘Violin. German Flute & Hautboy’, ‘Viol & Hautboy’, and ‘Violin & Hautboy’, always situated at the west end of St. Paul’s Churchyard. From 1762 the business was known as ‘Thompson & Sons’. The Hill archive records a four-string tenor viol with his manuscript label: Peter Thompson / next door to Child’s Coffee House / St.Paul’s Churchyard / London 1738 [BVMA]
