John Dilworth

TONNA Worked circa. 1850-1860 Valetta Malta Music seller and amateur maker. Exhibited a double bass at the London Exhibition 1851. Henley describes it as having rounded corners and birds-eye maple back.

Auf der Insel Malta hat es nach der Auskunft des dortigen Gouverneurs niemals berufsmässige Geigenmacher gegeben, wohl aber Leute, die Musikinstrumente ausbesserten, oder Dilettanten, die Geigen machten. Ein solcher war auch Tonna, der immerhin eine gewisse Geschicklichkeit besass und für einen Contrabass aus Vogelahorn mit abgerundeten Ecken in London 1851 eine ehrenvolle Erwähnung erhielt.
