Valerio Prilipco

Valerio (Valery) Prilipco is a violin maker of Russian origin, born in Orel, Russia, in 1952. He initially trained as a musician, earning a diploma in musicology in Orel and a further diploma from “il Conservatorio Superiore.” After a brief career as a musician, he turned to violin making, working first in Paris, where his craftsmanship earned him the “Médaille de la Chambre de Métiers du Val-de-Marne.” He later relocated to Cremona, Italy, where he opened his own workshop and studied under the respected maker Gio Batta Morassi.

Prilipco has gone on to enjoy considerable recognition on the international competition circuit, winning numerous awards in Russia, Náchod (Czech Republic), Mittenwald (Germany), and Baveno (Italy), including a silver medal in the Modern Violin category at the 2016 Santa Cecilia International Violin Making Competition. He has since served as a juror on international lutherie panels, including Italy’s ANLAI competition. Working in the Cremonese tradition, he is known particularly for fine copies of Stradivari models, and his instruments are sold through specialist violin dealers internationally.
