Jana Baptisty VAVRA
VÁVRA, Jana Baptisty Born 1870 Jablunka, Vsetin, died 1937 Prague Czech Republic. Founder of an important family of Czech luthiers. Worked initially in a furniture factory. As amateur musician began by repairing instruments for friends. Subsequently studied under J. Cermak in Kutná Hora. Established professionally in Prague from 1899, by 1912 in Dvorakove Street, Smichov district. Assisted by son Alfons, above, from 1906 and by F. X. Drozen as an apprentice from 1912. In 1916 J. B. Vávra was called up for national service. Drozen moved to the shop of J. Dvorak and Alfons took over the business. After his return from the war, Jan Baptista opened another branch of his business in Banska Bystri
