John Dilworth

VERNON, Charles Worked circa. 1823-1829 London UK. Nephew of Arthur Betts. Jointly ran the business known as J. Betts & Co. with Arthur after the death of John Betts in 1823. The partners fell out over the acquisition of the Stradivari 1704 ‘Betts’ violin, and Vernon established his own shop at 37 Cornhill in 1825 with the assistance of B. S. Fendt (I). An entrepreneur and dealer rather than a maker himself. Instruments bearing his label made by London makers (including Fendt), or imported.
