John Dilworth
WEERTMAN, Roelof Born 1895, Worked Rotterdam Netherlands, Worked from 1962 Falmouth, Massachusetts USA. Trained as a naval architect. Amateur maker from c.1915, with guidance from Hanken in Rotterdam. Emigrated to the USA 1923. Employed as an engineer but worked with G. M. Francois in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 1931-1937. Established in Beaver, Pennsylvania 1930-1957, moving to Falmouth, Massachusetts 1962 on his retirement as an engineer. Most of his instruments were made there. About 200 violins, 150 violas, and 51 cellos completed on many classical Italian models. Local materials used. Own copal and shellac varnish.
