Established in Budapest 1886 with his brother Anton Ernst, a wind instrument maker. Later worked alone in Soroksári Street, then at 9 Kecskeméti Street 1892-1896, assisted by L. Bohák. Gold medal awarded for a quartet in Paris 1900. Fine work on Stradivari-derived model but with distinctive scroll, possibly inspired by the Guarneri del Gesù 1743 ‘Cannone’ violin that belonged to Paganini. Golden-yellow to dark brown varnish. Interior work neatly done in willow and linings fully morticed. Branded internally: ‘Weidlich Budapest’ [Benedek]
