John Dilworth

WERRO, Jean Born 1868 Muntelier, died 1938 Bern Switzerland. Pupil of Leon Fischesser in Geneva. Established in Islington, north London from 1890. Moved to Bern in 1914 where he was joined by his brother Henry, above. Established one of the leading ateliers in Europe. Violins made on Stradivari models with golden-orange varnish. Very fine work. Awarded gold medal, with his son Henry, at Geneva 1927. Chiefly occupied with restoration and expertise. Instruments branded internally. Printed labels: J. Werro / Fecit a Berne / 19.. J.
