ZWERGER, Franz Xaver Born 1763 Mittenwald, died 1830 Neuburg an der Donau Germany. High-arched model with narrow deeply channeled edge and broad purfling. Open Amatisé soundholes. Decent workmanship, not of the highest order. Thin acid yellow varnish. Hamma illustrates a viola with concave cut-out in upper treble bout for access of the left hand in upper positions, anticipating the model used by O. Erdesz in the 20th century.
