John Dilworth

PELIZON (PELLIZON), Antonio (I) Born 1763 Gabria, died 1850 Gorizia Italy. Presumably the son of Francesco Pelizon, below. Impetuous work, not dissimilar to Landolfi. Arching of medium height but rather box-like. Outline quite square, with projecting prominent corners. Extremely long stiff soundholes, widely set. Broad purfling, quite clumsy mitres in deeply cut edge flute. Scroll very broad across the eyes but neatly turned and concentric, the second turn quite wide. Deep throat to pegbox. Mostly golden-yellow varnish of good but hard consistency, some with darker thinner red coating. Mostly plain materials. Some instruments with carved lion heads replacing the scroll. Thought to be the teacher of G. Dollenz. Antonio Pelizon / Fecit Gorizia, 1825
