SCHWARTZ, Theophil Wilhelm (I) Born 1797, died 1861 Strasbourg France. Younger son, pupil, and successor of Bernhard Schwartz, above. Worked throughout his career with his brother Georg, above. Violins, violas, and cellos largely produced by Theophil. Very clean professional work in the French manner on Stradivari model with full low arching and golden red-brown varnish. The numbering system on the labels suggests a production of around 80 violins and 30 cellos. Frères Schwartz / à Strasbourg 1833 / No. 15 Frères Schwartz / à Strasbourg 1829 / No. 24
