Maker Overview

History

Paul SERDET (1858-1934) was born in Mirecourt in 1858 and died in Paris, France, in 1934.

He underwent a thorough apprenticeship with Gaillard and later in the workshops of J. Derazay.

From 1877, he worked for H. C. Silvestre in Lyons.

According to Henri Poidras, the firm of H. C. Silvestre was transferred to Paris in 1884, and Paul Serdet remained attached to the Maison H. Chretien Sylvestre until 1894.

Willibald Leo Lütgendorff states that Paul Serdet worked for A. C. Silvestre in Lyon from 1877 to 1883, then moved with him to Paris and continued to work for him until 1894.

Sources contain conflicting information regarding the exact year H. C. Silvestre's firm transferred to Paris, with Henri Poidras stating 1884 and Willibald Leo Lütgendorff implying 1883.

He established himself independently in Paris from 1894 at 28, rue du Faubourg-Poissonnière, where, according to Henri Poidras, he was still to be found at the time of writing.
