John Dilworth

THIR, Mátyás (Mathias) Born 1736 Bratislava (Pressburg) Slovakia, died 1806 Vienna Austria Brother of János György Thir, above. Worked briefly in Bratislava and from 1870 in Vienna. Prolific maker with large staff of workmen. Medium- to high-arched Stainer model with dark golden-brown or deep red-brown varnish. Good materials. Usually one-piece backs and fronts.
