John Dilworth
WAGNER, Sebastian Worked circa. 1788-1807 Meersburg Germany. Brother of Joseph Wagner, above. Fine work on slightly elongated Stainer model, with rather flat curves into the corners from upper and lower bouts. Narrow edge. Broadly cut soundholes. Head generally of pear wood. Pegbox steeply curved with large open throat and small tightly curled volute and heavy chamfer. Thin golden-yellow varnish. Branded below back button with reverse stamp (letters raised from background): ‘Wagner’. Branded on lower rib: ‘Meersburg’ [Hamma]
