Conia is regarded as an important figure in the modern Cremonese school and has received recognition in national and international competitions. He was also involved in the foundation of the Italian Association of Violin Makers (ALI) and the European Association of Violin Makers (AEL).

Maker Overview
Life
Stefano Conia (I) (b. 1946) is an Italian violin maker of Hungarian origin, based in Cremona. Born in Hungary on 10 January 1946, he followed his father István Kónya into violin making and moved to Italy to study at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona from 1968 to 1972. There he studied under masters including Pietro Sgarabotto, Gio Batta Morassi, and Francesco Bissolotti.
After completing his training, Conia remained in Cremona and taught at the International School of Violin Making for more than twenty years, specialising initially in varnishing and restoration before teaching construction. He later established his own workshop, producing violins, violas, and cellos inspired by classical Cremonese models, particularly those of Stradivari and Guarneri.
