Werner Barth

Maker Overview

Werner Barth (20th century) was a German violin maker based in Bad Brambach, Saxony. He was the third generation of the Barth family of violin makers, following Robert Barth (1864–1945) and Walter Barth. His workshop continued the Saxon tradition of hand-made violins, violas, and cellos in the region around Markneukirchen and Klingenthal.

Barth produced instruments during the second half of the 20th century, including examples from the period of the German Democratic Republic. His work is characterised by careful workmanship, individual models, and traditional German construction methods. Instruments are typically labelled or branded with his name and the location Bad Brambach.
