Maker Overview
Life
Bohemian zither and fretted-instrument maker based in Schönbach (now Luby, Czech Republic). Trained under Josef Siebenhüner, he established his own workshop in 1896 and became particularly known for high-quality concert, harp and Perfecta zithers. His workshop developed into a substantial manufacturing business, employing numerous craftsmen and exporting instruments internationally. His son Alfred continued the family business from 1934. The Bräuer name is principally associated with zithers and other fretted instruments rather than violin making.
