ALBERTI, Pietro (I) Worked 1578-1598 Rome Italy. Lute maker in Rome. Almost certainly of Bavarian origin, rather than Flemish as suggested by Vannes. It is highly unlikely that he made violins as Henley implies. [Lebet]

A celebrated maker of lutes in Bologna, 1598. The label, ” Petrus Albertus faciebat ,” was found in a large mandora made of maple wood, beautifully grained, with fine varnish, brown colour, the neck inlaid with ivory.
