Maker Overview

Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mézin (I) (1841–1923) was a French violin maker from Mirecourt who established his workshop in Paris in 1868. Trained by his father, he became one of the most prominent French makers of his generation, exhibiting at international expositions and receiving medals for his work. His violins, violas, and cellos often followed Stradivari and Guarneri models, with a reputation for powerful tone and reliable craftsmanship. Later in life, he moved his workshop back to Mirecourt, where production continued under his son. Instruments bearing the Collin-Mézin name remain highly regarded and are part of a long family tradition of violin making.
