DICKESON (DICKSON), John Born 1725 Stirling, Scotland, Worked circa. 1750-1780 London & Cambridge UK. Dealer and retailer. Labelled and sold the work of Rawlings, amongst others, and seems to have worked with Rauche at some point. Trade work on usual London Stainer pattern; sometimes of more Amatisé aspect. George Hart

He would seem to have lived in various places, some instruments dating from London and some from Cambridge. He was an excellent workman, and chiefly copied Amati. His work much resembles that of Cappa.

William Meredith Morris

An instrument of his make on the Amati model was owned by a Mr. Jenner, in Bath, a few years ago. It had very pretty wood, light brown varnish, and a sweet, silvery tone. It was rather weak on the fourth string, but clear and responsive on the two upper strings. Label : —

Cecie Stainer

Born in Stirling, but worked both in London and Cambridge, about 1750-1780. There are instruments dating from both places. He followed the Amati pattern and his work was excellent.
