Brother Antonio and sons Giuseppe and Luigi also luthiers, but known only for plucked instruments. In a mandoline of very pretty workmanship, inlaid with mother-of-pearl on tortoiseshell, with purfling of ivory, was the MS. label : Donato Filano, fecit alia rua di S. Chiara, a.d. 1782, Napoli.”

Es giebt nur sehr wenige Geigen von ihm, und diese sind unbedeutend; auch
ihr brauner Lack ist nicht zu loben. Dagegen sind seine Mandolinen und Pandoren
gut. Eine reich und geschmackvoll eingelegte neap. Mandoline von ihm
besitzt die königl. Sammlung alter Musikinstrumente in Berlin (No. 750), eine
ähnliche C. Claudius in Malmö, zwei die Sammlung Loup und eine das musikhistorische
Museum in Stockholm. Valdrighi schreibt den Namen Fileno.
