John Dilworth
FURBER, David Born 1720 Wellington, Somerset, died 1787 Clerkenwell, London UK. Traditionally thought to have been apprenticed in London to John Johnson. His signature has also been found inside work bearing the brand of Longman & Co. Workmanship in the London trade tradition of the time: high-built Stainer model and small neatly rounded scroll with small chamfers. Thin brown varnish over a stained-looking ground. Excellent craftsmanship and finish. Labels unknown. Inscribed on interior of front: ‘Furber Maker / 4 Barclay St Red Lyon St. Clerkenwell’ [BVMA]
