Biographies
John Dilworth
GUADAGNINI, Gaetano (II) Born 1796, died 1852 Turin Italy. Son of Carlo Guadagnini, above. Succeeded to the family business on the death of his uncle Gaetano (I) in 1817. According to Rosengard he succeeded in raising the shop to a level of success and profitability that had evaded his forebears. In 1816 Cozio stated that he was responsible for varnishing white instruments made by ‘M. L. Epine’ (D’Espine). Mostly employed in the fine adjustment and restoration of violins, and making plucked instruments. An inventory of his workshop revealed quantities of Mirecourt instruments and bows amongst his stock. Awarded a copper medal for a guitar at the first Turin exhibition of 1829.
