HELLSTEDT, Petter died 1772 Stockholm Sweden. Probably a pupil of Olof Arling. Succeeded to his business. Earliest label dated 1736. Licensed as a violin maker 1742 and assisted by his son Petter Alexander, below, from 1760. The shop was continued by his widow for some years. Prolific maker, over 500 instruments recorded, but inconsistent in quality. Violins and cellos of small form, various viola models up to tenor size.
