Maker Overview
Life
French family of violin makers, bow makers and experts active in Paris. Joseph Marie Chardon (1843–1930), son and pupil of Georges Chanot, established his own atelier in 1872 and produced violins and bows based on classical Italian models. His son André Chardon (1897–1963) trained as a violin maker and repairer before specialising in bow making. André developed a distinctive style influenced by Tourte and Peccatte and produced a small number of finely crafted bows. He succeeded to the family business in 1949 with his sister Joséphine. The Chanot-Chardon firm was active in the making, restoration and dealing of fine violins, violas, cellos and bows in Paris.
