Maker Overview
Life
Juan Guillamí “Filius” was the son of Juan Guillamí I, and succeeded him in running the family workshop following his father’s death. He continued working within the same Barcelona tradition, producing instruments influenced by his father’s models and methods.
His output is generally considered a more commercially driven continuation of the workshop style, with workmanship that can appear less refined and materials of variable quality compared to earlier instruments from the same workshop. The instruments typically feature relatively low, somewhat flattened arching, and are finished in a dark spirit varnish characteristic of Spanish trade production of the period.
