Martin Kaiser
Maker Overview
History
Martin Kaiser (1642-c.1695) was born in 1642 in Erkenbollingen, Füssen, Germany, and died around 1695 in Venice, Italy. According to John Dilworth, he resided in his uncle's home in Venice from 1653 and was recorded as a violin maker at his marriage in 1661. However, sources contain conflicting information regarding his working period. Cecie Stainer notes a German maker named Martin Kaiser working in Venice in 1609, and Willibald Leo Lütgendorff mentions an arch-lute dated 1632. These dates precede Kaiser's birth year of 1642 as stated by Dilworth, suggesting either a different individual or discrepancies in historical records.

- Cello: A 7/8 sized cello, dated 1679 and housed in the Musical Instruments Museum, Brussels, exhibits fine workmanship on a well-regulated model with a medium arch.
