KLOTZ, Sebastian Label found in factory produced student instruments sold by Haynes & Co., London c.1907. No.152 / “Haynes’’ / Sebastian Klotz Violin / 19..
George Hart
Son of Matthias Kloz. The instruments of this maker are much esteemed : they are superior in pattern and style to those of Matthias. The model is flat as compared with most Violins of the German school. The varnish varies.
Cecie Stainer
A brother of Joseph and George Klotz. Worked in Mittenwald about 1710-40. He seems to have been the best maker in the family.
His violins are of a large pattern, not much arched ; as a rule the varnish is excellent, the tone is clear and full, and the work is carefully finished.
Label: ” Sebastian Klotz in Mittenwald, an. 1730.” A similar label in a violin, with yellow-brown varnish, was dated 1740.
