John Dilworth
LEEB, Andreas Carl Worked circa. 1790-1801 Bratislava (Pressburg) Slovakia, d. after 1813 Vienna Austria. The first maker in Vienna to adopt the Stradivari model, before Geissenhof. Initially with dark varnish which has subsequently turned black, in his Viennese period this became gradually lighter and achieved a fine clear golden-brown colour. Some instruments on an Amatisé model. Scrolls generally a little crude. Occasionally branded on back: ‘A.L.’. Printed label: Andreas Carolus Leeb / fecit Viennae 1813 No..
