John Dilworth

MAIRE, Etienne Worked circa. 1887-1898 Barcelona, died 1935 Madrid Spain Son and pupil of E. Maire-Breton, below. Worked in Paris c.1898-1900, but returned to Spain and settled in Madrid. Stradivari, Guarneri, and Maggini models; well executed. Generally dull red-brown varnish but yellow to golden-brown in Madrid period. Instruments from Barcelona branded. Paris work has manuscript label: Etienne Maire fils Luthier / à Paris, 1900, rue Poissonnière 31
