Life
Nicolas François worked in his brother’s Paris workshop before establishing himself in Brussels in 1828, where he became maker to the Royal Conservatory and received numerous exhibition medals. Jean-Baptiste established his own celebrated Paris workshop in 1828, becoming one of the most influential French makers of the 19th century, renowned for his interpretations of Stradivari and Guarneri models and for his innovations in violin making.
