ODDONE, Carlo Giuseppe Born 1866, died 1935 Turin Italy. Pupil of Gioffredo-Rinaldi from c.1879. Worked in London for F. W. Chanot 1889-1891. Established independently in Turin from 1892. Stradivari and Guarneri models; later made copies of Rocca and introduced a personal pattern. One of the finest and most prolific Italian makers of his generation. Exceptional work and materials with deep red or golden-orange varnish. Finely carved and concentrically balanced scroll. Long elegant corners to body. Branded internally and on lower rib, and inside cello pegboxes. Each instrument numbered on the label; over 269 recorded. Carlo Giuseppe Oddone fece Torino A.19..

Schüler von Rinaldi, bei dem er von 1889—1899 arbeitete, und von
F. W. Chanot, bei dem er zwei Jahre blieb. Im Jahre 1901 ging er von England
in seine Heimath zurück und eröffnete seine eigene Werkstatt. Seine
Violinen werden gelobt.
