John Dilworth

PUSKAS, Joseph Born 1913 Hungary, d. after 1970 West Park, Ohio USA. Pupil of Paulus Pilat 1938-1941. Established in New York before moving to Los Angeles 1947. Stradivari and Guarneri models initially. Later developed a personal model. Similarly early violas on Gaspar da Salò model. Later instruments to a personal model. Spirit varnish up until 1970; subsequently used an oil formulation. Mostly local materials since 1954. About 150 instruments completed. Branded externally: ‘Joseph Puskas’ [Wenberg]
