TATAR, Pietro (Peter) Born 1909 Bátaszék Hungary, died 1973 New York USA. Self-taught from 1922. Studied in the Cremona International School from 1938-1940 succeeding C. Schiavi as a teacher there until 1958, during which time he won several diplomas and completed over 40 violins, six violas, and five cellos. Emigrated to the USA 1959. Established in Yorkville, Manhattan from 1960 moving to New York City in 1965. Completed about a dozen violins in the USA. Stradivari and Guarneri models. Yellow-orange or red-brown spirit varnish.
