PERESSON, Sergio Born 1913 Udine Italy, died 1991 Haddonfield, New Jersey USA. Active from 1943. Moved to Caracas, Venezuela in 1947. Employed as repairer to the Venzuelan Symphony Orchestra. Moved to Philadelphia to work for William Moennig 1963-1971. Established independently in Haddonfield from 1971. Prolific maker. Early work finely finished, using Guarneri models and shaded spirit varnish. Gained a high reputation amongst players for his copies of master instruments, especially cellos, capitalising on his experience in Moennig’s shop. Clients included cellists du Pré and Rostropovich. Later relied to some extent on pre-fabricated parts and general standard of work became less consistent
