Biographies
John Dilworth
CAUSSIN, NICOLAS Born 1818 Rouvres-la-Chétive, died 1889 Neufchâteau Vosges France. Elder son of François Caussin, above. Worked for some time with his brother François Hippolyte in his father’s shop, but moved to Paris where he had a business at Place de la Croix-Rouge until 1857, when he returned to Neufchâteau. A specialist in varnish. Some later work made for him by his nephew Collenot. Branded: ‘Caussin Nicholas, fils’. One manuscript label reads: ‘made in the workshop of C. A. Miremont and varnished by Caussin in Neufchâtel in 1877’
