Biographies
John Dilworth
DUNCAN, Robert Worked circa. 1739-1760 Aberdeen Scotland UK. Most significant maker of the Aberdeen school. Very refined work on the Stainer model, comparable with contemporary Florentine work. Precise craftsmanship with delicate accurate chamfers and edges. The purfling is usually painted on, but with remarkable precision. It is highly likely that he had some professional training in London, possibly with Wamsley, the technical aspects of the work being very accomplished. Scroll cut with distinctive conical taper to the volutes, viewed from front and back, and extended last turn. Thin golden-brown varnish. Robert Duncan.Maker. / Aberdeen, 1775.
