John Dilworth

DVORÁK, Jan Baptista Born 1825 Unhošt, died 1890 Prague Czech Republic. Apprenticed to Jan Kulik 1840-1844. Worked in Budapest for J. B. Schweitzer and for Anton Hofmann in Vienna before establishing himself in Prague. Stradivari and Guarneri models. Well constructed but not as distinguished as those of his son Karel Boromejsky, below. Varnish of variable quality; some very vivid colours used, some darker and slightly opaque with generally thin consistency. Also a guitar maker.
