Maker Overview
Oskar Richard Gütter (born 1887 in Markneukirchen, Saxony, Germany) was a German violin maker from the Vogtland region, a major centre of violin making. He trained under A. Zeitler and later worked in several established workshops, including those of Robert Nürnberger and Robert Penzel. After completing his training and workshop experience, he established his own workshop in Markneukirchen. His instruments are typically labelled “Oskar Gütter, Geigenbauer, Markneukirchen” with dates in the mid-20th century, and surviving examples include violins dated in the 1950s and 1960s.
